Rescuing Street Children
Hope Teams International is working alongside Pastor Jorge Pinto in his ministry to transition street children to more stable living conditions. Raised as an abandoned child, he understand the needs of the kids who live on the streets. Currently rescued street kids are living in a transitional shelter above the sanctuary of the Amor y Vida (Love and Life) Church, where his son, Jorge, is the director. Here they undergo social training, detoxification, begin public education, and experience the love of Christ through a Christian congregation.
From there they go to a newly developed facility at Talanga, about one hour from Tegucigalpa. This is close enough to make transportation by car easy, but far enough to keep the bad influences of street life away from the kids.
The 50+ acre site at Talanga is under continual construction. One dormitory, the dining hall, a computer lab, team housing and a caretakers house arre completed. Nearing completion is the second dormitory which will house all of the boys currently on campus and boys from the transition shelter. With this dorm completed, room will be created for an additional 20 more children to be tescued from the street. $5,000 is needed to complete the construction on this facility. We hope to see it completed by June 2010.
Hope Teams and several other groups are providing teams to assist with construction and educational needs as well as financial support through our child sponsorship program.
